The founder of the group, Hüseyin Özbuğday started the agricultural industry with the investment for ginnery established in 1960s after cotton and wheat production he started in Amik Plain in 1940s. The first private cotton seed processing plant of Turkey (delintation enterprise)was established in Antakya in 1995 by Özbuğday brothers and a new era started in Turkish agriculture with the slogan of “Do not plant cottonseed, plant seed!”. A new period has launched in cotton seedling in Turkey with the cotton seeds offered to the market with “Beyaz Altın” brand.
Özbuğday Group, which is entitled to receive “Seed Producer Certificate” and “Agricultural Researcher Enterprise Registration Certificate” by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, aims to become a leader in its field by focusing its research activities only on field crops especially cotton seed.
One of the group companies, Progen Tohum A.Ş. broke one more new ground in the field of seed in 2017 and has taken the title of the first Seed R&D Center in Turkey by the Ministry of Science and Industry.
The Group companies, which are specialized on research, production and marketing of cotton, wheat, soybean, barley seeds, have registered over 60 new seed types and today, they carry out about 40% of certified cotton seed production in Turkey per year. In addition, it has become a known and sought seed brand with its quality in more than 10 countries to which it exports the seeds it offers with ‘BEYAZ ALTIN’ and ‘PROGEN’ brands.
